BBQ and Trivia Night - Saturday 25 November

Do you think you know a bit about Ecology?

Join us for a BBQ (own expense) at The Event Centre Lawns. There will be vegetarian options, and a cash bar available. After that,  test your knowledge, make some new friends and maybe even learn something at the Eco-Tas Trivia Evening! The team based event will consist of three rounds that will test your knowledge of the ecology of Australia, New Zealand and the whole world. The event will be held in the Cypress Lakes Resort Hotel, and prizes will be awarded to the most knowledgeable teams.

Thursday 30 November - Movie Night

Terra (2015) 1 h 37m

A visually stunning documentary directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Michael Pitiot that reflects human’s relationship to other species on Earth as humanity becomes more and more isolated from Nature.

Terra looks at the natural history of mankind and our existence on Earth. It looks back on the unique journey of a species which, among millions of others, has evolved and emerged from the many phases of our planet’s growth. As it progresses, we witness a number of remarkable and individual characteristics of certain life-forms.

Scavenger Hunt

Throughout the conference we will be running a scavenger hunt using ProofSafe, an excellent app developed for accurate data collection, wherever your research takes you.  There will be objectives and questions that will get you exploring the conference venue with a prize draw at the end. ProofSafe will display results on their website as they’re collected in real time, including mapping, statistics and images.

Go to the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android) to download the ‘ProofSafe’ app.

iNaturalist Competition

The iNaturalist competition is for those with keen eyes and ears for the natural world.  The idea is to use the vast array of ecological expertise gathered at the conference to generate data about the species present at the site. Records can include any species from moths to melaleucas and weeds to wombats. Participants are invited to download the iNaturalist App and record their sightings under the Eco Tas 2017 Project. Observations can only be added during the conference from 12pm Sunday to 12pm Thursday. As a form of encouragement, the top participants will be ranked by the number of contributions to the project and awarded a “mystery” prize. Incidentally, the competition is sponsored by McGuigans and Tempus Two wines ;D
