EcoTAS17: A Survival Guide

EcoTAS 17 differs from most of our previous annual meetings in that it will take place in rural Australia, set against the stunning backdrop of the Broken Back Mountain Range in the Hunter Valley.  The venue sits within 100 hectares of natural bushland meaning we’ll be sharing our conference with kangaroos, kookaburras and koalas. We really want delegates to get the most out of this venue and thought of a few pointers to help you plan ahead.

1. Eating and drinking

Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided to all delegates as part of registration fees. In addition, light breakfast items (e.g. egg rolls) will be on sale each morning. Tea/coffee is complimentary each morning, or a coffee cart will be available if you prefer to purchase barista style coffee.

The venue has restaurant options for those wanting to treat themselves and there are also less expensive dining options available for EcoTAS attendees each evening for $15-$20 per person.

Delegates staying at Cypress Lakes can also take advantage of the fully equipped kitchens, dining and decking areas in each villa. Maybe bring some food, your favourite tipple and have some friends around? Make the most of our distinctive accommodation this year.  On Tuesday, we’ll have some wine-makers visit to showcase local wines. Take the opportunity to purchase a few bottles, and enjoy in your villas.

We have planned casual dinners every evening (own expense) that you can pre-book. They will be BBQ or takeaway style – menus are available on the conference website.

We’ve also organised for a few basic items (bread, butter, milk etc) to be available for purchase from the golf pro-shop -which opens at 6:30am every day.

There is an ATM at Cypress Lakes (1 only).

2. Getting about

Our bushland location is 3.5 km from Pokolbin village shops and the nearest town is Cessnock (14 km away). There is ample free parking at Cypress Lakes. We’re encouraging delegates to think about lift sharing if using their own transport. We’ll also be running a shuttle bus between Cessnock and the conference venue.
